HOJO CLAN

1. Decision to aid their ally, the Imagawa Clan against the Oda Clan.

Results:

- Ceased further expansion into Kanto region. At a later stage, this led to the invasion of Kanto by the Takeda Clan, who pillaged and oppressed the people of Kanto.

Prominent Buddhist monks from Shimotsuke province were killed.

Prominent Metsukes from Kozuka province were killed.

- Seized the Throne of Amaterasu in Owari province. This increased the clan's overall prestige and standing with the Ashikaga Shogunate.

- Developed Owari province. Under the Hojo Clan, Owari province grew more prestigious and wealthy. This increased the clan's overall prestige and standing with the Ashikaga Shogunate.

2. Decision to enlist an aristocratic Archery Guild from Shikoku

Results:

- The Gunpowder Guild, run by the local Hojo clansmen, was unprofitable and under-developed. Most of the clan's money and time was invested into outsider guilds instead.

3. Decision to allow the local Gunpowder Guild to maintain its operations in Sagami province and then in Musashi province, instead of developing Musashi province.

Results:

- Musashi province, which was the Heart of Kanto, remained under-developed.

- The Gunpowder Guild also remained under-developed and unprofitable.

4. Decision to seal a treaty with the Hattori Clan, during the Hattori invasion of Chubu region.

Results:

- A treaty was sealed with the Hattori Clan: Hojo Clan to overlook Hattori Clan advances when circumventing Owari province. In exchange, Hattori Clan to cease attacks on Owari province itself.

- This was acceptable in the eyes of the Ashikaga Shogunate, because at an earlier stage, the Imagawa Clan (which was a major clan in Chubu region, alongside the Hojo Clan) capitulated on the demands from the Takeda Clan (also a major clan in Chubu region, alongside the Imagawa and Hojo Clans) to negate military access for Hojo clansmen to pass through Imagawa territories.

5. Decision to form an alliance with the Date Clan (from Tohoku region) and abandon the Imagawa Clan, as well as the duties and obligations of being a major clan in Chubu region.

Results:

- A treaty was sealed with the Date Clan: Hojo Clan (a major clan in Chubu region) to abandon its alliance with the Imagawa Clan (a major clan in Chubu region). In exchange, the Date Clan to offer a military alliance, trade agreements, diplomatic marriage and military access to the Hojo Clan.
This agreement would allow the Date Clan to invade Chubu region, specifically the Imagawa territories, AND move freely through Chubu region without any interference from the Hojo Clan.

- This was dishonourable in the eyes of the Ashikaga Shogunate.     Having said that, the Takeda Clan (another major clan in Chubu region) was also dishonourable for betraying the mandate by attacking the Hojo Clan.    Also, the Daimyo of the Hojo Clan made this decision to safeguard his own family, close friends and his people.

6. Decision to form an alliance with the Satomi Clan.

Results:

- The alliance amounted to nothing. Although the Satomi Clan was peaceful, it was also weak and had an overly contented culture. The Satomi Clan was later conquered by the Takeda Clan.
